What is that one thing you’ve always wanted to do and just kept putting off, making excuses and coming up with reasons you can’t do x, y, z?!!?

I get it. It’s scary to put yourself out there and try something just because YOU want to. Heck, I’m fricken 60 this year and when so many of my peers are thinking about retiring, I’m adding to my bucket list.

I didn’t let anyone tell me I couldn’t race boys at the racetrack at 17 (Psst, don’t tell mom because she thought I was just hanging out at a friends house)

…and I’m not letting anyone dictate what I can or can’t do at 60! 🎉

I am so thankful to my own life coach @passionpurposepassport kicking me in the 🍑 and getting me out of my own head 😳 She has been my biggest cheerleader (and occasional pain in my 🍑) and always there pushing me outside my comfort zone.

But I had to take those steps myself. She can empower and support me, but I have to do the hard work and say YES!

👩🏻‍🦰 Growing up I was taught that to tell people how amazing you are or to show off your talents was “bragging” and highly discouraged. “Girls shouldn’t do that.” “That isn’t attractive.”

And so I hid for most of my life.

☀️ I hid my height and how amazing my beautiful long legs were, by wearing flats instead of heals so that other women didn’t feel “so short” and so that guys didn’t feel small.

☀️ I hid how smart I was so that others again wouldn’t feel like they didn’t know what I knew 😳 what? girls aren’t supposed to be able to solve chemical equations in their head?!

And when I did any of these things, other girls looked at me like I was weird and boys didn’t want to date me 🤪

☀️ and so many more talents, gifts and abilities remained hidden.

I’m still a work in progress, but I am learning to own my own worth more each and every day!

In a world where others want to bring us down and diminsh our sense of self-worth, it becomes essential to illuminate our unique brilliance. We all possess a radiant light within, a beacon of authenticity and value waiting to be recognized.

By embracing our strengths, passions, and inner beauty, we empower ourselves to shine brightly, casting aside doubts and insecurities. Knowing our worth is not just about self-confidence, but about acknowledging our inherent value and the positive impact we can make in the world.

So let your light shine, and in doing so, inspire others to do the same.

💦 Are there aspects of your wellness that you haven’t tapped into yet, perhaps your cultural wellness? 🪷

It’s been a month since I participated in a Nahuatl Water Ritual with my friend Georgina performing the ceremony.

My own wellness journey has been about opening myself up and expanding my knowledge and experiences beyond what I grew up with.

Having friends with different backgrounds, cultures and faiths has allowed me to broaden my perspectives and recognize how we all have more similarities than differences. Recognizing that each person has their own stories and struggles. None of us are immune, but we all can learn from one another.

I love attending ethnic festivals, trying new cuisines, or adding music, movies, television and books from around the world. Doing so opens my mind to different cultural narratives and perspectives.

Participating in ceremonies and practices that honor ancestral traditions without expectations and with an open mind have allowed me to see even more how interconnected we all are.

The Nahuatl Water Ritual you see in this reel is “deeply ingrained in the heritage of Mesoamerican cultures, serves as a profound example of this concept. This ritual goes beyond mere physical cleansing; it intertwines spirituality, connection to nature, and communal solidarity.”

As I’ve shared before, being near or in water is my happy place. It is where I escape to often. This ceremony was deeply personal for me. It was needed and so healing. I was able to connect with, and then release, something and someone that I had held onto for over 40 years. Along with Georgina we let those souls fly, the water heal us as we said goodbye.

👩🏻‍🦰 To all the MOMS out there…Let’s have an honest chat 💬

In the whirlwind of raising children, it’s easy to lose sight of the passions, interests, and dreams that once defined us.

We let the busyness of motherhood become a shield, protecting us from confronting the parts of ourselves we may have neglected or left behind.

We immerse ourselves in the endless tasks and responsibilities, using them as a distraction to avoid facing the reality that we’ve drifted away from the person we once were – the person who had hopes, dreams, and aspirations of her own.

Even as an empty nest mom, I tried to fill every moment with activity, claiming it was the “busyness of life”. In reality, it was me trying to hide from my own uncomfortableness with figuring out who I was NOW, outside the realm of motherhood.

Yet, amidst the chaos and busyness, there comes a moment of reckoning – a realization that we’ve sacrificed too much of ourselves in the process.

We come to understand that by neglecting the parts of ourselves that make us unique and whole, we’re denying ourselves. We call it a “worthy sacrifice” and a million other bs things to make us feeling good about being okay with leaving ourselves behind.

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t change those years for anything and neither should YOU!

But now it’s time to wake-up, to pause, and to reconnect with the person you left behind – to rediscover the passions, interests, and dreams that once brought YOU joy and fulfillment.

As daunting as it may seem, this journey is essential for reclaiming our sense of identity and purpose, both as individuals and as mothers. It’s an invitation to embrace all that makes us who we are, to honor our own needs and desires, and to embark on a path of self-love, growth, and rediscovery.

The sun decided to shine, my plans for the evening cancelled, I seized the moment to pivot and instead hit the pavement. The fresh air filled my lungs, the steady beat of my heart propelled me forward providing the rhythm to my footsteps. With each stride, I realized I was not just moving my body, but also awakening my soul. It had been way too long.

Yes, I move my body daily. But this was different. Today I let the warmth of the sun energize my spirit, leaving behind yesterday’s worries and embracing the moment of movement for myself. When was the last time you put down that to-do list, skipped the call of the couch at the end of the day and just enjoyed the beauty of the journey?

So, when the sun calls, answer, listen to what it has to say and let it guide you towards a brighter path ahead.

As I wandered the deck of the ferry yesterday on my way to see a friend on the island, the weather provided a powerful reminder…even on the darkest of days you can find light.

I lifted my phone to capture the darkness I was leaving and panned to the sunshine amidst the white fluffy clouds that I was heading towards.

Kind of like today’s even bigger reminder with the total solar eclipse happening this afternoon across America.

In the darkness, we may feel trapped, uncertain, or overwhelmed by obstacles. However, by courageously stepping into the light, we reclaim our own power, find clarity, and discover a path forward. It is profoundly empowering.

It represents the strength to pivot from negativity to positivity, from stagnation to progress, and from doubt to confidence. It highlights the resilience and inner strength that enable us to navigate challenges and emerge stronger on the other side.

If the process of grief taught me one thing, it is that life is too short to wait. Nobody is going to complete that bucket list, but you. Nobody is going to heal the hurts that hold you back, but you. And all of the excuses are just your fears holding you back.

Isn’t it time you brought the sunshine back into your life ☀️

🚨 TRIGGER WARNING - Talking about grief 🚨

It’s been 22 years since I lost my father and for some of you reading this that can be a major chunk of your life.

For me, although I knew it would come sooner than I wanted because he was fighting cancer, it was devastating.

And don’t remember much of the day other than waking up (we lived in Iowa then) and having the urge to call home (in California). Crazy early though it was, i listened to that urge. And I was able to tell him I loved him and he me in the last hour before he passed away. The rest of the day was a blur.

And then I locked it all away to be the “strong one.” To help my mother, to be there for my children and to be the organizer of all things because that was the role I played much of my life.

I am still processing my grief.

I share this with you so that you know that grief looks different for everyone. Somedays it is soft, some days it is hard and when you need help along the way, ask. You aren’t being the “strong one” by hiding from it. You are being the strong one because you acknowledge that you can’t always do it alone. My hubby understands when I have these days. Our kids get it when mom still becomes teary-eyed over something because she wishes her dad was there for those moments in life. My friends understand when I just want to hermit. Because that is when I am processing and letting emotions flow.

Let them flow.

Remember, grief can also manifest in response to the loss of relationships, jobs, opportunities, dreams, or even aspects of oneself and not just a loved one.

Regardless of the cause, grief is complex. A mix of emotions including sadness, anger, confusion, and even relief. It’s a deeply personal journey that is yours and yours alone in how it plays out. There is not a right way or a wrong way to grieve.

We grieve because we love. We grieve because we care.

With each movement, whether it’s dancing, walking, or simply stretching, I revel in that feeling of freedom and my ability to navigate through life’s adventures.

☀️ I am grateful for this sunshiny day, that infuses me with a sense of renewed energy and optimism. The blue in the sky serves as reminder that the dark and gray will pass. The sun was shining so I grabbed a friend and her fur baby and we wandered on our favorite trail, got in our incline work (with a 330ft gain), some vitamin D and Sea.

And had fun hiding eggs filled with affirmations along the trail! Spreading love, light and a bit of positivity wherever we go! ☀️

For those of you new here, I was challenged by my manifestation coach @passionpurposepassport at the beginning of the year to make every recipe in @thechutneylife’s latest cookbook 📖 . It was literally next to the chair I was in because that was my next thing, finding a new recipe.

Instead of one from the cookbook though, this one called to me and the hubs. YUP! It became our brunch today!

🌸 As Spring emerges and the flowers begin to bloom, I am reminded that it’s been almost 10 years since Kathy came out of hibernation. 🥱

🙅🏻‍♀️ Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t change those chapters as a mom for anything. I recognize how blessed I was to have the opportunity to be a mom and get to be a part of raising amazing humans. 👀 To watch them grow and become their own individual selves.👨‍👧‍👦

But during that time, it was all about giving. 🤲🏻

My wants and needs took the back burner most of the time. 🙇🏻‍♀️

It was like I was on hold….waiting. 📞
