I can’t believe it’s already been two weeks since I got together with my friend Kusum and did a day of baking and cooking at my house. The funny thing is I never thought of doing a post about Rice Krispie treats, I mean everyone knows how to make those, right? It’s on the side of the darn box everyone’s had them, haven’t they?

It started actually even sooner than our baking day, because we had been out getting our Fall shopping fix on. Kusum is full-on hands-down Fall fanatic! You gonna want to check out all of her blog posts at Sveetskapes for sure!
Anyway, we were just about to leave Target and we passed by the craft section of the storue. There was a picture on the display of Fall treats, using some of the craft stuff. I was so inspired I wanted to try my hand at making some of the treats, so I picked up the sprinkles and all of the ingredients right then and there otherwise I’d never get it done. After all quite frankly my husband and I can skip eating rice crispy treats until, like forever
Our baking date arrived and all my supplies were ready. Kusum arrived and we dug into making the Rice Krispie treats. It turns out that Kusum had never not only made Rice Krispie treats, but she never actually eaten them! I know! *GASP*

I shouldn’t be surprised because Kusum was born and raised in southern India and came to the US for college and graduate school. There she met her amazing husband and they married, eventually relocating to Seattle.

It still floored me that all these years later she’s never tried one at all. Not at someone’s house, not any of the prepackaged premade ones, or even at some bakery because they’ll have them too. Anyway…..

We had a blast! We made the Rice Krispie treats step-by-easy-step. I buttered by hands to flattened the Rice Krispie treats in the pan. Any excuse to get messy peeps! Once they had cooled, we cut them using cookie cutters, molded them or simply cut shapes out with my knife.

At this point Kusum was digging into the all the little scraps and I think I’ve created a Rice Krispie treat monster!
We then had fun figuring out how to decorate a our shapes. We just dunked some in the Wilton candy melt colors, others we covered completely. Then it was time for candy eyes and sprinkles. I can honestly say that I don’t think we will ever win awards for decorating, but that’s OK they all taste the same in the end.
