Starling Diner – A Foodies Dream Breakfast

Alright peeps! It has taken me two years of dreaming, but I finally made it to the Starling Diner in Long Beach, California!

What you haven’t been there? Well, add it to your list of must-do the next time you are in the area. Yes, I’m a foodie. Yes, I love food. I share recipes on the blog. I love trying new restaurants. Some I share on IG on Stories, some make it to a grid post.

Only the best of the best make it to a blog and onto my Pinterest. The Starling Diner has been on my radar for two years. One visit to So Cal, I was just too busy. The last time I tried to get in they were packed. Kinda tells you that its a good place right? This time I made sure to schedule time on a weekday morning, but not too early. The nieces and nephew were off to school and my mom and I headed over.

I was so excited I couldn’t contain myself. Seriously! I had been crushing on the photos on Instagram and the menu on their website for two year! I was drooling even before I was out of the car!

When we walked in it was a nice quiet and slightly sunny morning, so I went for a table by the window. Us PNWers need our vitamin D whenever and wherever we can get it. Our server arrived, gladly took our beverage order and while we waited for our coffees to arrive, we checked out the menu.

Ok, here you go. There were so many things I wanted to try, that I told the waiter to be prepared. I was a foodie. I love food. Forget me please for ordering way too much for just my petite mom and myself. He answered all my questions, provided guidance and later made sure I had plenty of to-go packages.

Did I mention I was staying with my equally foodie pastor brother and his three kids? Yeah, none of that food was going to waste, right?

Here you go…. pictures and words cannot compare to the real thing, but my humble self will try…..

A basket of their double cream scones were perfection. They are served with orange-honey butter and homemade lemon curd. I am a scone and curd snob, these passed the test and are 100% amazing!

Voted the “Best French Toast” by OC Weekly, these beauties are made with a fresh baguette stuffed with sweet marscapone creaminess, dipped in..wait for it..creme anglais, then broiled. With several fruit options to try we went for the fresh peaches. Topped with more creme anglais, caramel balsamic and whipped cream. Ready to lick the photo yet?

Piled high in what looks like an sundae dish is a creamy breakfast polenta, a layer of creme anglais, followed by a layer of fresh berries and topped with whipped cream.

It was just as amazing the second day!

The most wonderous breakfast treat ever! Who would have thought of making breakfast bruschetta? Toasted baguette points slathered with creamy marscapone, fresh berries and a drizzle of honey.

Yes, please! Give me more!

Have you booked a flight yet? Are you jumping in the car? I may beat you there if you wait too long!

Oh, did I mention that Guy Fieri came for an episode of Food Network’s Diners, Drive-In’s and Dives? Yeah, I didn’t know either. But he wasn’t here for breakfast. I’m thinking he needs to come back!

Totally awesome, right? Now I just need to get back for lunch! Hopefully it won’t take me two years 😂
